Produced in rabbit as an unconjugated polyclonal antiserum, this reagent targets CX3CL1, the CX3C-family chemokine commonly known as fractalkine or neurotactin. CX3CL1 is unusual among chemokines because it is synthesized as a type I transmembrane glycoprotein with an extracellular chemokine domain tethered to the cell surface; ADAM10 and ADAM17-mediated shedding then releases a soluble fragment that retains chemoattractant activity toward monocytes, NK cells, and T lymphocytes expressing the CX3CR1 receptor. Investigators studying microglia recruitment, neuroinflammation, atherosclerotic plaque biology, or leukocyte adhesion in endothelial and epithelial systems regularly work with this target.
Validated for western blot on samples from human, mouse, and rat origin, the antibody is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline containing 15 mM sodium azide, with the formulation adjusted to approximately pH 7.2. Each vial contains 100 µl of ready-to-use antiserum that can be diluted directly into blocking buffer or used for affinity purification in custom assay development. The unconjugated format gives laboratories freedom to choose their own HRP, fluorescent, biotin, or chromogenic reporter for downstream detection.
For routine handling, store the vial refrigerated between uses and limit freeze-thaw cycles to preserve the polyclonal population. Sodium azide is included as a microbial preservative, so the buffer should be handled with standard laboratory safety practices and disposed of according to institutional guidelines for azide-containing waste. Antibody titers should be optimized empirically against the specific lysate and transfer conditions in use, and expected band sizes will depend on whether the intact transmembrane or shed soluble form of CX3CL1 is being analyzed.
From Antibodies.com, this anti-CX3CL1 polyclonal reagent is a versatile tool for laboratories characterizing fractalkine signaling, microglial activation, or inflammatory cell trafficking across neuroscience, immunology, and cardiovascular research programs.
