This polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com was raised in rabbit against COX5A (Cytochrome c Oxidase Subunit 5A), a nuclear-encoded component of mitochondrial respiratory Complex IV that contributes to oxidative phosphorylation in eukaryotic cells. It is supplied unconjugated and affinity-purified at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, in a 50 µl vial format ready for routine immunolabelling workflows.

Validated applications include Western blot and immunohistochemistry, with reactivity confirmed against human, mouse, and rat samples. Researchers investigating mitochondrial bioenergetics, Complex IV assembly, hypoxia signalling, and tumour cell metabolism have used COX5A-specific antibodies to probe steady-state subunit levels in cultured cells and tissue sections. The polyclonal format allows recognition of multiple epitopes, which can be advantageous when probing samples where post-translational modifications or species-specific sequence variation may affect binding.

For Western blot, loading 10-30 µg of total protein from cultured cells or tissue homogenates is generally sufficient to detect the approximately 16 kDa COX5A band using standard chemiluminescent or other enzyme-based detection chemistries. For immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections, heat-induced antigen retrieval in citrate buffer (pH 6.0) followed by incubation with the primary antibody at 1:100 to 1:500 dilution is a useful starting point. Aliquot upon first use and store at -20°C in a frost-free freezer; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and protect the vial from light to preserve reagent integrity. The 0.05% sodium azide acts as a microbial preservative, so handle the antibody with appropriate care and avoid long-term storage of diluted working solutions at 4°C if azide-sensitive reagents will be added in downstream steps.
