From Antibodies.com, this rabbit polyclonal reagent targets cytochrome c oxidase subunit 4 (COX4), a nuclear-encoded catalytic component of Complex IV of the electron transport chain, embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Because the antigen is constitutively expressed across most human tissues and remains stable under standard lysis conditions, it is commonly deployed as a mitochondrial loading control in immunoblotting, alongside cytosolic markers such as GAPDH or β-actin.

The unconjugated antibody is supplied as a 100 µl vial and is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence on human samples. For routine use, store working aliquots at 4°C; for long-term retention, keep the stock frozen at -20°C and divide into single-use fractions to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the polyclonal material.

COX4 is encoded by the COX4I1 gene and is widely studied in the context of mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidative phosphorylation efficiency, and the cellular response to hypoxia, where switching between COX4-1 and the paralog isoform COX4-2 modulates oxygen consumption. Researchers working on neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, and cancer metabolism routinely probe for COX4 to assess mitochondrial mass and respiratory chain integrity in cultured cells, fixed tissue sections, and isolated organelle preparations.
