Connexin 43 is a 43 kDa gap junction protein encoded by the GJA1 gene, forming intercellular channels that allow direct passage of ions and small metabolites between adjacent cells. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets an epitope in the K257 region and is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (pH 7.2) containing 0.05% sodium azide as a preservative. Each vial contains 50 µl of ready-to-use antibody stock.

The antibody has been validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows, and it cross-reacts with both human and mouse Connexin 43. Researchers commonly apply it to studies of cardiac tissue, neural tissue, and epithelial cell layers where Cx43-rich gap junctions are abundant. As a polyclonal reagent, it recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which can be advantageous when working with samples that may show partial degradation or post-translational modification of the connexin.

For storage, keep the vial refrigerated; do not freeze. The sodium azide content makes the solution incompatible with long-term live-cell assays but is appropriate for fixed-cell immunofluorescence and standard blotting procedures. Brief equilibration to room temperature before pipetting reduces viscosity and improves accuracy at low volumes.
