Raised in rabbit as a polyclonal reagent, this unconjugated primary antibody selectively recognizes Connexin-40, the gap junction protein alpha 5 (GJA5) that assembles into connexons mediating direct cell-to-cell electrical and metabolic coupling in cardiac conduction tissue and the arterial endothelium. Distributed by Antibodies.com, the reagent is supplied as 100 µl of affinity-purified antiserum and is validated for Western blot and ELISA workflows, with demonstrated reactivity against human, mouse, and rat samples.

Connexin-40 (Cx40) is most strongly expressed in atrial myocytes, the His-Purkinje system, and arterial endothelial cells, where it pairs with Cx37 and Cx43 to coordinate synchronized conduction and vasomotor responses. Researchers studying atrial fibrillation, atrioventricular conduction block, hypertension, vascular remodeling, and developmental patterning of the cardiac outflow tract routinely use anti-Cx40 antibodies to map gap junction distribution by immunoblotting of tissue homogenates. The unconjugated format allows users to pair the antibody with custom reporter conjugates, including HRP, biotin, or fluorophores, depending on the experimental design, and the 100 µl pack size supports multiple blot or plate assays.

For best results, aliquot upon first thaw to limit freeze-thaw cycles and store refrigerated short term; for longer-term storage, keep the vial frozen at -20°C in working aliquots to preserve polyclonal titer. Each batch is quality-controlled by the supplier to support reproducible detection across the three validated species.
