Raised in rabbit against human catechol-O-methyltransferase, this polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets the COMT enzyme responsible for transferring a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catechol substrates, including dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. The unconjugated reagent is supplied as a 100 µl aliquot and is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human samples.

COMT exists as two isoforms produced from a single gene through alternative promoters: a shorter soluble form (S-COMT) found predominantly in the cytoplasm and a longer membrane-bound variant (MB-COMT) anchored to the rough endoplasmic reticulum. Both isoforms are expressed across neural and peripheral tissues, with the enzyme serving as a principal route for inactivation of catecholamine neurotransmitters and xenobiotic catechols.

Researchers apply this reagent to studies of catecholamine metabolism, neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia, and pharmacogenomic investigations of COMT inhibitors including entacapone and tolcapone. Additional published uses include probing estrogen metabolism pathways in breast and endometrial cancer research, where COMT-mediated methylation of catechol estrogens has been implicated in tumor biology.

Reactivity is reported for human tissue, and the antibody is unconjugated, allowing users to pair it with secondary detection systems of their choice for either chromogenic or fluorescence-based IHC, or standard HRP- or fluorophore-conjugated secondaries for Western blot.
