Anti-Complement C4 Antibody

Complement C4 is synthesized as a single-chain precursor and circulates in serum before being cleaved during classical-pathway activation into the smaller anaphylatoxin fragment C4a and the larger opsonic fragment C4b, which covalently deposits on target surfaces. Research applications include investigation of complement consumption in autoimmune disease, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus and C4-deficiency cohorts, as well as studies of classical-pathway engagement on antibody-coated cells and immune complexes. For western blot, separated proteins are transferred to nitrocellulose or PVDF membranes, blocked, and probed with the antibody at a working dilution matched to the detection system, with signal developed using HRP-based chemiluminescence. Store the antibody frozen in single-use aliquots at -20 °C, avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and centrifuge briefly before opening to recover full volume from the vial.
