Recognizing the fibrillar collagen that forms the principal structural matrix of hyaline articular cartilage and the vitreous humor, this unconjugated reagent from Antibodies.com is validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting studies of chondrogenesis, osteoarthritis progression, intervertebral disc biology, and skeletal development.

Each vial contains 100 µl of polyclonal antiserum that binds the native triple-helical region of type II collagen, enabling clear visualization of cartilage matrix deposition in fixed tissue sections and detection of the alpha-1(II) chain in denatured protein lysates. The unconjugated format gives researchers flexibility to pair the antibody with their preferred HRP, fluorescent, or biotinylated secondary reporter, and the polyclonal nature of the reagent provides tolerance for minor conformational variation across species orthologues of the target.

For IHC on cartilage-rich sections, enzymatic or heat-induced antigen retrieval is generally recommended before staining. For Western blot, standard reducing SDS-PAGE separation resolves the processed alpha chains cleanly. The vial should be refrigerated for routine short-term use; longer-term storage at -20 °C in working aliquots helps minimize repeated freeze-thaw cycles on the immunoglobulin fraction. Intended for research use only.
