This rabbit polyclonal antibody targets COL8A1, the alpha-1 chain of type VIII collagen, a short-chain collagen enriched in basement membranes of the corneal Descemet's membrane and in vascular subendothelial matrices. Mutations in the COL8A1 gene are linked to posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy, making this reagent valuable for studies of ocular basement membrane biology, vascular remodeling, and extracellular matrix assembly.

From Antibodies.com, the antibody is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, and is validated for Western blot detection across human, mouse, and rat samples. The unconjugated polyclonal format allows researchers to pair the antibody with their own secondary detection chemistry. Refrigerate the vial upon arrival; aliquot and freeze at -20 degrees C for longer storage to limit freeze-thaw cycles.

Each vial contains 100 ul of antibody, enough for multiple blotting experiments depending on dilution. Because the reagent is polyclonal, it recognizes multiple epitopes on the COL8A1 protein, which is helpful when probing full-length procollagen chains that may undergo alternative processing. Investigators studying angiogenesis, corneal disease mechanisms, fibrotic remodeling, or tissue-specific collagen deposition can incorporate this antibody into their extracellular matrix workflows.
