COL17A1 (Collagen Type XVII Alpha 1 chain) is a transmembrane hemidesmosomal collagen, also designated BP180, that anchors basal keratinocytes to the underlying basement membrane of the skin. Loss-of-function mutations in the gene drive junctional epidermolysis bullosa, while circulating IgG autoantibodies against the same protein characterize bullous pemphigoid in autoimmune dermatology. Antibodies.com distributes this reagent as a recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody, unconjugated and validated for western blot, immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat specimens.

The antibody is provided as 100 µl of liquid in 1×TBS (pH 7.4) with 1% BSA, 40% glycerol, and 0.05% sodium azide as preservative. Recommended handling includes short-term refrigerated storage at 4 °C, aliquoting upon first use to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and avoiding prolonged exposure to light, supporting consistent immunoreactivity across longitudinal studies of dermal–epidermal junction integrity, subepidermal blistering pathology, and keratinocyte migration in wound healing models.

Because the antibody recognises the native transmembrane form of BP180, it is suited to immunolabeling of skin cryosections, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded biopsies, and cultured keratinocyte monolayers. The recombinant production format delivers reproducible epitope recognition between independent lots, which matters when comparing lesional versus perilesional patient biopsies or tracking disease progression in animal models.
