Raised in rabbit against the cofilin target, this polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied as an unconjugated, 100 µL aliquot validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows. The reagent detects endogenous cofilin in human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting comparative studies of actin cytoskeleton remodeling across standard laboratory model systems.

Cofilin is a 19 kDa actin-binding protein of the ADF/cofilin family that severs and depolymerizes filamentous actin, driving lamellipodial turnover, directed cell migration, and cytokinesis. Its activity is governed by phosphorylation at Ser3, with LIM kinase acting as the principal inactivating kinase and slingshot homolog phosphatases reactivating the pool. Aberrant cofilin regulation has been implicated in metastatic invasion, neuronal pathfinding, and immune synapse formation, so the antibody is used in cancer cell motility assays, synaptic plasticity studies, and investigations of host-pathogen interactions where actin dynamics are central to the biology.

For Western blot, the antibody is applied to whole-cell lysates from cultured mammalian lines or fresh tissue homogenates separated by SDS-PAGE, where a single band near the expected molecular weight confirms specific detection. In immunohistochemistry, the reagent labels actin-rich structures in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections, highlighting regions of active cytoskeletal rearrangement. Aliquot upon first use and store at -20°C to preserve activity across multiple freeze-thaw cycles; avoid repeated freeze-thaw of the working stock to maintain titer over the lifetime of the vial.
