Background on the Target
Raised in rabbit and supplied as an unconjugated polyclonal IgG, this reagent from Antibodies.com is directed against CNBP (CCHC-type zinc finger nucleic acid binding protein), a single-stranded DNA- and RNA-binding factor also referenced as ZNF9 and RNF163. The mature protein runs at approximately 19 kDa and assembles seven CCHC-type zinc finger motifs that contact G-quadruplex-prone nucleic acid substrates. In the cytosol, CNBP operates as an IRES trans-acting factor (ITAF), docking the 5'UTR of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) mRNA to drive cap-independent translation and thereby support polyamine biosynthesis.
Disease and Expression Relevance
The CNBP gene localizes to chromosome 3q21.3, and an expansion of an intronic CCTG tetranucleotide repeat - from the normal range below 30 copies to 75-11,000 copies - is the established cause of myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2). Additional reports link altered CNBP activity to sporadic inclusion body myositis and to vertebrate craniofacial development, while transcription-profiling and tissue-array studies document dysregulated expression in glioblastoma, lung adenocarcinoma, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, and clear cell renal carcinoma, where CNBP carries prognostic value in selected patient cohorts.
Validated Workflows
Antibodies.com has validated this reagent for western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on human and rat samples. The polyclonal composition supports recognition of multiple CNBP epitopes, enabling detection in whole-cell lysates, primary cell cultures, and paraffin-embedded tissue sections for in vitro research use.
Format and Handling
Each vial contains 100 µl of liquid antibody. Refrigerate upon receipt, protect from light, aliquot on first use, and limit freeze-thaw cycles to preserve IgG stability. The reagent is intended for research use only.
