Raised in rabbit and affinity-purified, this polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com specifically recognizes the cleaved, catalytically activated form of cathepsin A, distinguishing the mature processed enzyme from its full-length precursor. Cathepsin A, also called lysosomal carboxypeptidase A or protective protein and encoded by CTSA, acts as a serine carboxypeptidase that physically shields beta-galactosidase and alpha-neuraminidase from premature lysosomal turnover. Loss-of-function mutations in this enzyme underlie galactosialidosis, a rare lysosomal storage disorder. Selective detection of the activated cleavage product supports studies of lysosomal enzyme biogenesis, neurobiology, and disease models where proteolytic maturation is of interest.

Validated for Western blot, the antibody is supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. The 50% glycerol content keeps the solution liquid at -20 °C for convenient freezer storage. Unconjugated and reactive with human, mouse, and rat samples, the reagent allows direct cross-species comparison on the same immunoblot, making it useful for examining tissue-level differences in cathepsin A processing between healthy and diseased specimens.
