This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets CIDEC (also known as FSP27), a lipid droplet-associated protein that regulates triglyceride storage and lipid droplet expansion in adipocytes. Validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), the antibody binds both human and mouse CIDEC and is supplied at 100 µl per vial. CIDEC sits on the surface of lipid droplets, where it mediates lipid transfer and promotes the formation of large unilocular droplets characteristic of mature white adipocytes. Loss-of-function mutations in CIDEC are linked to familial partial lipodystrophy type 5 (FPLD5), making the protein a focus of research into metabolic disease, insulin resistance, and adipocyte biology. Researchers also study CIDEC for its pro-apoptotic activity in non-adipocyte contexts, as it belongs to the CIDE family of cell death-inducing DFF45-like effectors. The polyclonal format raises the probability of recognizing multiple epitopes on the target, which is useful when probing tissue sections where antigen presentation varies between cell types. Because the reagent is unconjugated, it can be paired with secondary detection systems labelled with HRP, fluorophores, or biotin according to the chosen workflow. Short-term storage at 4 °C is appropriate once received, and aliquoting the 100 µl stock is recommended to limit freeze-thaw cycles when only small working volumes are needed. For Western blot, lysates from differentiated adipocytes or adipose tissue serve as positive controls, and knockout or knockdown lysates can be included alongside to confirm band identity. For IHC, sections from mouse brown or white adipose depots, or from liver steatosis models, give strong signal with this reagent. This is a research use only primary antibody supplied by Antibodies.com.
