The Antibodies.com Anti-Chromogranin C polyclonal antibody is a research-grade reagent raised in rabbit against human Chromogranin C, also known as secretogranin II and encoded by the SCG2 gene. The target is a tyrosine-sulfated, acidic granule-matrix glycoprotein resident in the dense-core secretory vesicles of neuroendocrine cells. The unconjugated antibody is supplied as a 100 µL liquid aliquot and is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human samples.
Chromogranin C belongs to the granin family of proteins that assist in the sorting, packaging and regulated release of hormones and neuropeptides from neuroendocrine tissue. Its proteolytic processing within secretory granules generates smaller bioactive peptides, most notably secretoneurin, a 33-residue fragment that has been studied for chemotactic activity toward monocytes, eosinophils and neural precursor cells. Because expression of this antigen is largely restricted to neuroendocrine lineages, antibodies directed against it are routinely applied to characterise pancreatic islet cells, adrenal medullary chromaffin cells, anterior pituitary corticotrophs and somatotrophs, and the enteroendocrine cells scattered through the gastrointestinal epithelium.
On Western blot the reagent recognises a band of approximately 71 kDa corresponding to the intact precursor, with additional lower-molecular-weight immunoreactive species typically reflecting physiological cleavage. Suggested starting dilutions are 1:500 to 1:2,000 for immunoblotting of cell or tissue lysates and 1:100 to 1:500 for immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections, with antigen retrieval in a citrate or EDTA buffer. For short-term use the vial should be kept refrigerated; for longer storage it is recommended to aliquot and freeze the preparation, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The reagent is for research use only and is not validated for in vitro diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
