CD46 (Membrane Cofactor Protein, MCP) is a type I transmembrane complement regulator that serves as a cofactor for factor I-mediated cleavage of C3b and C4b, protecting autologous cells from complement-mediated destruction. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets CD46 for use in western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows on human and rat samples, making it useful for studies of complement regulation, immune evasion by pathogens such as measles virus and several adenoviruses that exploit CD46 as an entry receptor, and reproductive immunology research where CD46 is highly expressed on placental trophoblast.

The antibody is supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotective stabilizer. The 100 µl vial should be aliquoted upon arrival and stored frozen for long-term preservation, with short-term handling on ice acceptable for active use. Sodium azide is included to prevent microbial contamination; downstream applications involving live cells or conjugation chemistry should account for this. For western blot, expected band sizes cluster around the 45-70 kDa range depending on isoform and glycosylation status; for IHC, antigen retrieval and standard formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded protocols are compatible, and for IF the reagent is suitable for both frozen sections and cultured cell monolayers after appropriate fixation.
