CD138 (Syndecan-1) is a type I transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan widely used as a marker for terminally differentiated B cells and plasma cells. This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com was raised against human CD138 and is supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated antisera for use in western blot and ELISA workflows.

Syndecan-1 carries heparan sulfate chains that bind growth factors, chemokines, and extracellular matrix components, contributing to cell adhesion, proliferation, and migration. Loss of CD138 expression on myeloma cells has been investigated as a prognostic indicator in several hematological studies, and the antigen is routinely detected on normal and neoplastic plasma cells as well as on certain epithelial tissues.

For western blot applications, the antibody reveals the characteristic core protein band near 30 kDa after heparan sulfate removal, alongside larger heterogeneous species in fully glycosylated preparations. Researchers studying multiple myeloma, B-cell maturation, or epithelial-mesenchymal interactions rely on this target. The unconjugated format allows secondary antibody flexibility for chromogenic, fluorescent, or HRP-based detection systems. Aliquot on receipt to limit freeze-thaw cycles and store refrigerated for short-term use.
