Chromatin and epigenetics researchers frequently use this Antibodies.com monoclonal reagent to interrogate CBX5 (also known as HP1α, Heterochromatin Protein 1 alpha), a chromodomain-containing nuclear protein of roughly 22 kDa that localizes to pericentric heterochromatin and contributes to gene silencing, DNA damage response, and chromatin architecture. The antibody is a mouse monoclonal reactive with both human and mouse CBX5, supporting comparative studies between the two species.

It is validated for western blot and immunocytochemistry, making it useful for mapping H3K9me-marked heterochromatin domains, tracking HP1α redistribution after DNA damage, and characterizing nuclear organization. The unconjugated preparation is supplied at 100 µl in 0.1 M Tris-Glycine (pH 7.4), 150 mM NaCl, and 50% glycerol with 0.2% sodium azide as a preservative; the high glycerol content allows storage at -20 °C without freeze-thaw damage and helps preserve antibody activity over extended use. Unconjugated format gives flexibility to conjugate the reagent to fluorophores, biotin, or HRP for diverse detection readouts.
