Recognizing Chromobox homolog 5 (CBX5), also called Heterochromatin Protein 1 alpha (HP1α), this Antibodies.com primary antibody is an unconjugated recombinant rabbit monoclonal reagent applied widely across chromatin and epigenetics research. CBX5 is a chromodomain-containing reader of histone H3 lysine 9 trimethylation marks; it concentrates at pericentric heterochromatin, supports gene silencing and chromatin compaction, and participates in DNA damage responses, positioning the target within studies of heterochromatin maintenance, differentiation, senescence, and genome stability.

Each vial is supplied as 50 µl of recombinant antibody in 1×TBS (pH 7.4) with 1% BSA, 40% glycerol, and 0.05% sodium azide as preservative, and is intended for research use only. For handling, aliquot upon receipt and store frozen for long-term stability, or refrigerate at 4 °C for active working stocks, and protect from light where repeated freeze-thaw cycles are anticipated.

Validated for Western blot, immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry workflows, the antibody cross-reacts with Mouse and Rat orthologues in addition to Human CBX5, supporting comparative work across established cell lines and tissue sections in both in vitro cell culture and in vivo model contexts. Researchers use it to map HP1α distribution at pericentric heterochromatin, profile heterochromatin remodeling, and probe interactions with repressive chromatin complexes through antibody-based assays.
