CBX5, also known as Heterochromatin Protein 1 alpha (HP1α), is a chromodomain-containing nuclear protein that recognizes and binds histone H3 trimethylated at lysine 9 (H3K9me3), anchoring large domains of transcriptionally silent heterochromatin at pericentric and telomeric regions. This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets CBX5 and is validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, and chromatin immunoprecipitation across human, mouse, and rat samples. The reagent is supplied as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, giving a working dilution range flexible enough for both sensitive IP and ChIP applications and routine IF imaging of nuclear heterochromatin foci. Researchers commonly use this antibody to monitor heterochromatin dynamics during differentiation, track HP1α redistribution following DNA damage, pull down CBX5-containing complexes for mass spectrometry, and probe recruitment of PRC1-family readers to silenced loci. For short-term use, store refrigerated at 4°C; for longer-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C to preserve activity through multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
