Raised in rabbit against the p10 subunit of caspase 14, this unconjugated polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2. Caspase 14 is an unusual member of the caspase family: unlike most family members it is not central to apoptosis but instead functions during the terminal differentiation of keratinocytes, supporting cornification of the epidermis and formation of the natural skin barrier. The zymogen is processed by cleavage into p20 and p10 fragments, so a reagent that recognizes the smaller p10 subunit lets researchers monitor enzyme activation rather than only steady-state expression of the full-length protein. The antibody is validated for Western blot and reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting translational work on epidermal development, filaggrin maturation, ichthyosis, atopic dermatitis, and the keratinocyte response to UV exposure. The polyclonal format improves the chance of capturing multiple epitopes on the small fragment, useful when sample abundance is limited. Aliquot the vial on arrival, store refrigerated and protected from light to limit freeze-thaw cycles and photodegradation, and handle with standard laboratory technique given the sodium azide content.
