Calsequestrin 1 (CASQ1) is a high-capacity, low-affinity calcium-binding glycoprotein localized to the terminal cisternae of the sarcoplasmic reticulum in skeletal muscle, where it acts as the principal luminal reservoir for sequestered Ca2+ and modulates ryanodine receptor (RYR1)-mediated calcium release during excitation-contraction coupling. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antibody, supplied by Antibodies.com in a 100 µl vial, was raised against human CASQ1 and is validated for western blot and immunohistochemistry on human tissue, supporting studies of intracellular calcium handling in normal and diseased myofibers.

Research applications include characterization of CASQ1 expression in patient biopsies from tubular aggregate myopathy and other inherited skeletal muscle disorders linked to altered sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium storage, as well as investigations of excitation-contraction coupling in physiological and disease-model systems. Because CASQ1 expression is largely restricted to fast-twitch skeletal muscle fibers, the reagent can also be used as a marker for fiber-type composition in histological sections.

The antibody is reactive with human antigen, provided as a single vial format for research use only, and is supplied unconjugated to permit flexible selection of fluorophore- or enzyme-conjugated secondary reagents for immunofluorescence, chromogenic, or chemiluminescent detection workflows.
