Caldesmon is an actin- and myosin-binding protein predominantly expressed in smooth muscle cells, where it regulates actomyosin ATPase activity and thin filament function during contraction. This polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes both high molecular weight (~150 kDa) and low molecular weight (~70 kDa) isoforms, supporting clear band identification in western blot analysis of human cell lysates. The antibody is supplied as a 100 ug liquid preparation in a single vial, unconjugated and ready for direct use in immunocytochemistry on cultured cells and routine western blotting. For optimal activity, store aliquots at -20 degrees C and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Researchers commonly employ this reagent when characterizing smooth muscle differentiation markers in vascular tissue studies, leiomyoma panels, and tumor pathology workflows where cytoskeletal architecture is under investigation.
