Raised against the human CALCB precursor, this affinity-purified polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as a liquid IgG preparation in a 100 µl vial, allowing laboratories to drop it directly into existing rabbit-detection workflows without further conjugation. CALCB encodes β-CGRP, a 37-amino-acid neuropeptide of the calcitonin gene-related peptide family that is processed from a preprohormone encoded on human chromosome 11 and is most abundant in central and peripheral sensory neurons, the enteric nervous system, and certain vascular smooth muscle populations, where it has been linked to vasodilatory signalling and migraine-related trigeminal pathways.

Researchers deploy the antibody in Western blot and immunohistochemistry protocols on human, mouse, and rat samples, taking advantage of the cross-species reactivity for comparative studies of β-CGRP expression in trigeminal ganglia, dorsal root ganglia, intestinal mucosa, and vascular endothelium. Because the reagent is unconjugated, investigators can pair it with HRP-, biotin-, or alkaline-phosphatase-conjugated secondary antibodies of their choice for chromogenic or fluorescent detection, supporting both membrane-based and tissue-section workflows. Storage at -20°C in a standard PBS/glycerol buffer with 0.02% sodium azide preserves activity through multiple freeze-thaw cycles, and the polyclonal IgG format improves the chance of detecting multiple epitopes on the mature peptide or its precursor.
