The CALCA gene encodes calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), a sensory neuropeptide and potent vasodilator that serves as the antigen target for this rabbit polyclonal reagent. Supplied by Antibodies.com at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 15 mM sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, the unconjugated IgG is validated for western blot detection of the CALCA precursor in human and rat tissue lysates.

CALCA undergoes tissue-specific alternative splicing to produce two major bioactive peptides: calcitonin in thyroid C-cells and CGRP-alpha in neurons, where CGRP drives nociceptive signaling and is implicated in migraine pathophysiology. Researchers studying trigeminovascular biology, sensory neuron function, or medullary thyroid carcinoma routinely monitor CALCA expression by western blot to assess precursor processing and peptide release.

Each vial contains 100 µl of antibody at working concentration. For long-term integrity, store at -20 °C in single-use aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles; the included sodium azide preserves sterility during short-term benchtop handling. Because the reagent is unconjugated, it can be paired with HRP- or fluorophore-tagged secondary antibodies for chemiluminescent or fluorescent western blot workflows.
