The CALB1 gene encodes calbindin, a vitamin D-dependent calcium-binding protein belonging to the troponin C superfamily. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes calbindin D-28k and is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry applications. The antibody is supplied as 200 µl of liquid in a vial, with reactivity confirmed against human, mouse, and rat tissue samples.

Calbindin immunoreactivity is a widely used marker for specific neuronal populations, including Purkinje cells of the cerebellar cortex, dentate gyrus granule cells, and subpopulations of hippocampal and cortical interneurons. Researchers also rely on anti-calbindin staining to characterize distal convoluted tubule cells in the kidney and specific cell types within pancreatic islets. Western blot detection produces a band near 28 kDa, matching the predicted molecular weight of the mature calbindin protein.

For best results, store refrigerated and protect from light; the polyclonal mixture contains multiple epitope-specific clones that recognize distinct regions of the antigen, supporting reliable detection across formalin-fixed and fresh-frozen preparations. The unconjugated format gives laboratories full flexibility to pair the primary antibody with their preferred HRP, biotin, or fluorophore-conjugated secondary detection system, and is appropriate for research use only.
