The CACNA1S gene encodes the pore-forming α1S subunit of the dihydropyridine receptor (DHPR), a voltage-gated L-type calcium channel that is the dominant isoform in adult skeletal muscle. It acts as the voltage sensor that triggers ryanodine receptor-mediated calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, making it central to excitation-contraction coupling. Loss-of-function mutations underlie hypokalemic periodic paralysis type 1 and susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia, while other variants have been linked to thyrotoxic periodic paralysis.

This Antibodies.com reagent is a rabbit polyclonal antibody directed against CACNA1S and is supplied as an unconjugated preparation in a 100 µl volume. It is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human samples and is intended for research use only. The polyclonal format offers recognition of multiple epitopes across the target, which is useful when probing channel fragments, post-translational modifications, or tissue-specific splice variants in both lysates and fixed sections. For storage, the antibody should be kept at -20 °C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve reagent activity over extended experimental timelines.
