Carbonic anhydrase 4 (CA4) is a GPI-anchored, membrane-bound zinc metalloenzyme that mediates CO2 and bicarbonate exchange across epithelial and endothelial surfaces, supporting acid-base balance, ion transport, and fluid secretion. Mutations in the CA4 gene are causally linked to retinitis pigmentosa 17 (RP17), making the protein a target of interest for both renal physiology and inherited retinal disease research. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com is raised against CA4 and validated for western blot detection of the endogenous protein in human and mouse samples. Investigators use it to characterize expression in renal proximal tubule epithelium, corneal and retinal pigment endothelium, and selected microvascular beds, as well as to compare wild-type and RP17-associated isoforms on immunoblots of tissue homogenates and membrane-enriched fractions. Because the antibody is polyclonal, it binds multiple epitopes on the target, which helps preserve signal when the GPI-anchored protein partitions unevenly during lysis. The antibody is shipped as a 200 µL liquid aliquot that can be diluted directly into blocking buffer for immunoblotting workflows, and it is intended for research use only.
