Anti-C5 Antibody

The C5 complement protein sits at a pivotal branch point of the terminal complement cascade, where its proteolytic cleavage generates the anaphylatoxin C5a and the membrane-attack-complex initiator C5b. Research tools that selectively detect human C5 support studies of innate immune activation, complement-driven inflammation, and therapeutic antibody blockade of C5 cleavage (the molecular target of eculizumab and ravulizumab, used clinically in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome).
