Raised in rabbit against the bone marrow stromal antigen 2 (BST2) protein, also called CD317 and Tetherin, this unconjugated polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com recognizes an epitope conserved across human, mouse, and rat BST2. BST2 is a 180-amino-acid type II transmembrane glycoprotein induced by type I interferons that physically tethers nascent enveloped virions to the plasma membrane of infected cells, restricting the release of HIV-1, Ebola, Lassa, and other enveloped viruses (HIV-1 Vpu and other viral antagonists neutralize this activity).

The reagent is specific for the BST2 target across all three listed reactive species and is validated for Western blot on whole-cell lysates, where it detects endogenous BST2 around 30-36 kDa, a range that reflects the two N-linked glycans and the GPI membrane anchor characteristic of the molecule.

Researchers use this reagent to track interferon-driven BST2 induction in immune cells and cancer lines (notably multiple myeloma), to probe the BST2-Vpu interaction in HIV-1 studies, and to survey BST2 expression in tissues from human, mouse, and rat origins. The product is supplied as 100 µL of a 1 mg/mL antibody in PBS, 0.05% sodium azide, pH approximately 7.2; aliquot upon arrival, refrigerate short term, and for longer storage keep frozen at -20°C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles. For research use only.
