5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) is a halogenated thymidine analog that becomes incorporated into newly replicated DNA during the S-phase of the cell cycle. This unconjugated mouse monoclonal antibody from Antibodies.com binds BrdU within denatured DNA, enabling direct visualization of cells that were actively synthesizing DNA at the time of nucleoside administration. The IgG reagent is supplied in a 100 µl vial and is validated for immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunocytochemistry (ICC), and immunofluorescence (IF) workflows across fixed tissue sections and cultured cell preparations.

Because the antibody carries no fluorophore or enzyme conjugate, investigators can pair it with their preferred secondary reagent—HRP-labeled, biotinylated, or fluorescent anti-mouse IgG—to match a chromogenic, tyramide signal amplification, or multi-color immunofluorescence panel. BrdU pulse labeling is widely used in neuroscience, developmental biology, cancer research, and regenerative studies to quantify proliferating populations, track lineage relationships, and measure cell turnover after in vivo injection or addition to in vitro cultures. The monoclonal format provides a single-epitope specificity that supports reproducible staining batch-to-batch, which is particularly important when comparing proliferation indices across experimental cohorts.

For handling, store refrigerated for short-term use and aliquot to limit freeze-thaw cycles, which can gradually reduce binding activity over extended storage.
