This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com recognizes BPIFA1 (BPI fold-containing family A member 1), a secreted innate defense molecule also referred to in the literature as SPLUNC1, LUNX, and PLUNC. It is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 15 mM sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, and has been validated for Western blot detection of the human and rat proteins. As an unconjugated reagent, it gives researchers full flexibility to pair it with their preferred secondary detection chemistry and labeling approach.
BPIFA1 is expressed most abundantly in the upper respiratory epithelium, salivary glands, and oral mucosa, where it contributes to mucosal surface protection through antimicrobial and surfactant-like activity. Published studies have linked altered BPIFA1 expression to cystic fibrosis airway disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and several head and neck tumor types, making it a frequent subject of research into host defense, respiratory inflammation, and tumor marker discovery. The polyclonal format recognizes multiple epitopes on the target, which is useful when working with samples in which post-translational modification or proteolytic processing of BPIFA1 may vary between tissues and disease states.
Each vial contains 100 µl of antibody, and the reagent should be handled using standard cold-chain practices for polyclonal antisera. Short-term storage at 4 °C is appropriate for routine use, while longer term aliquots should be kept frozen at -20 °C or lower to preserve activity, with repeated freeze-thaw cycles avoided. Sodium azide is included as a preservative; if the antibody is to be used in live-cell work or downstream conjugation, the azide should be removed by dialysis or buffer exchange before use.
