Raised in rabbit and affinity-purified, this polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets the pro-apoptotic BH3-only Bcl-2 family member Bim for western blot detection in human, mouse, and rat samples. The unconjugated reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in a 100 µl volume of PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, ready to dilute for routine immunoblotting workflows in apoptosis and oncology research programs.

Bim sits at a critical decision point in the intrinsic mitochondrial death pathway, where it displaces activated Bax and Bak from prosurvival Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, and Mcl-1 to trigger cytochrome c release and caspase activation. Investigators rely on this reagent to monitor Bim protein levels following FOXO3a transcriptional induction, MEK/ERK pathway inhibition, paclitaxel or imatinib treatment, and glucose or cytokine withdrawal stress. The antibody is also useful for tracking the three main Bim splicing isoforms (BimEL, BimL, and BimS) and for resolving post-translational phosphorylation events that govern Bim turnover and its interaction with the broader Bcl-2 family network.

Downregulation of Bim through gene deletion, promoter methylation, or microRNA suppression contributes to tumor cell survival in melanoma, B-cell lymphoma, and chronic myeloid leukemia contexts, making the protein a recurring biomarker in translational oncology pipelines. Outside cancer biology, the antibody supports immunology studies of negative selection in developing thymocytes and neuroscience work on amyloid- or stroke-induced neuronal apoptosis. The 50% glycerol cryoprotectant allows convenient storage at -20 °C with minimal freeze-thaw damage when working aliquots are prepared from the supplied vial for research use only.
