This unconjugated mouse monoclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised against BID, the BH3-interacting domain death agonist, a pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family protein that links extrinsic death-receptor signaling to the mitochondrial (intrinsic) apoptotic pathway. The antibody is supplied as 100 µl of ascitic fluid containing 0.03% sodium azide as a preservative, and it is reactive with human BID for use in western blot (WB) and immunocytochemistry (ICC) workflows.

On western blots of cultured cell lysates, the antibody detects the full-length ~22 kDa BID polypeptide as well as the caspase-8-cleaved truncated fragment tBID (~15 kDa) generated upon death-receptor engagement, allowing researchers to track pathway activation alongside cleaved caspase-8 and downstream effector caspase-3 readouts. In immunocytochemistry on fixed mammalian cells, it has been applied to examine BID subcellular distribution under basal conditions and after treatment with pro-apoptotic stimuli such as Fas ligand, TRAIL, or chemotherapeutic agents that engage the extrinsic pathway.

Laboratories working on apoptosis, cancer biology, neurodegeneration, and mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization use this reagent to probe BID expression, processing, and localization. Sodium azide at 0.03% is present, so the vial should be handled with appropriate personal protective equipment, aliquoted on first use to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and stored refrigerated at 2–8 °C to preserve antibody activity across multiple experiments.
