Produced in rabbit against human betaine-homocysteine S-methyltransferase, this unconjugated polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence applications. BHMT is a cytosolic zinc-dependent metalloenzyme responsible for the folate-independent remethylation of homocysteine to methionine, using trimethylglycine (betaine) as the methyl donor, and is most strongly expressed in human liver and kidney tissue. The reagent is supplied as a 100 µl vial and should be stored at -20 °C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles; intended for research use only. In research workflows, it is applied to map BHMT protein distribution across hepatic and renal sections, to follow expression changes in cell culture models of impaired methyl metabolism, and to support in vitro studies of the methionine cycle.
