Biglycan (BGN) is a small leucine-rich proteoglycan of the extracellular matrix that carries two glycosaminoglycan side chains and contributes to collagen fibril organization in connective tissues. The unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as 100 µL of polyclonal antiserum suitable for western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human, mouse, and rat samples.

In western blot, the antibody is used to detect the core protein band of BGN in cell lysates and tissue extracts, supporting studies of bone, cartilage, tendon, skin, and vascular biology where biglycan abundance is being compared between healthy and diseased states. In immunohistochemistry, it serves as a probe for localization of biglycan within extracellular matrix compartments of formalin-fixed tissue sections, including investigations of fibrosis, tumor stroma remodeling, and atherosclerotic plaques.

Cross-reactivity with mouse and rat orthologs extends its usefulness to rodent models of skeletal development, muscular dystrophy, and kidney disease, where altered BGN expression has been reported. Provided unconjugated, the reagent can be paired with a wide selection of secondary antibodies for chromogenic or fluorescence detection depending on laboratory protocol. For handling, working aliquots help limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the stock solution, with the vial stored refrigerated between uses to preserve polyclonal antibody activity.
