The F-474 monoclonal antibody targets basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF, also known as FGF2), a heparin-binding mitogen involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, and tissue repair. Produced in mouse hosts as an IgG2a isotype and supplied by Antibodies.com in lyophilised form, this unconjugated reagent is reactive with human bFGF and has been validated for ELISA and Western blot workflows.

In Western blot applications, F-474 detects a band near 18 kDa corresponding to the low molecular weight form of bFGF, while higher molecular weight isoforms can appear at 22-24 kDa and around 34 kDa. For ELISA protocols, the antibody is commonly used to measure bFGF in conditioned media from cultured cells. Lyophilised preparations are stable at refrigerated temperatures after reconstitution and should be aliquoted to limit freeze-thaw cycles.

A 100 µg vial provides ample material for multiple Western blot membranes or ELISA plates. The monoclonal nature of the F-474 clone delivers reproducible lot-to-lot specificity for the bFGF target, distinguishing it from closely related FGF family members. Researchers studying tumor angiogenesis, wound healing, stem cell biology, and cardiovascular development use this reagent to track endogenous FGF2 expression in human cell lines and primary tissue samples.
