This rabbit polyclonal IgG from Antibodies.com is raised against Beta-Carotene Oxygenase 2 (BCO2), a carotenoid-cleaving enzyme located on the mitochondrial inner membrane where it converts beta-carotene, lutein, and related provitamin A carotenoids into retinoids and apocarotenoids. Supplied unconjugated in a 200 µl vial volume, the reagent is validated for Western blot analysis of endogenous BCO2 protein in human, mouse, and rat samples.

Researchers use BCO2 antisera to investigate carotenoid catabolism, mitochondrial vitamin A signaling, hepatic and adipose lipid handling, and retinal pigment epithelium biology relevant to macular pigment turnover. The unconjugated format allows pairing with user-selected HRP, biotin, or fluorophore-conjugated secondary reagents in chemiluminescent or fluorescence-based immunoblot workflows.

For handling, aliquot the antibody upon first thaw and store refrigerated in the original vial; samples kept for extended use can be snap-frozen and held at -20 °C to minimize repeated freeze-thaw cycles that degrade IgG performance. Short-term storage at 4 °C is appropriate for working aliquots used within several weeks.
