BAX (BCL2-associated X protein) is a 21 kDa pro-apoptotic effector of the BCL-2 family that governs mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization during programmed cell death. The Mouse monoclonal IgG antibody from Antibodies.com recognizes this protein and is supplied as a 200 uL unconjugated liquid aliquot validated for Western blot detection. Under homeostatic conditions, BAX resides largely in the cytosol; on receipt of an apoptotic signal, it translocates to the mitochondrial outer membrane, oligomerizes, and forms a pore that releases cytochrome c and Smac/DIABLO into the cytosol to drive caspase-9 and caspase-3 activation. Researchers studying tumor suppression, p53-dependent apoptosis, or chemotherapeutic response use this reagent on whole-cell or mitochondrial-enriched lysates from Human and Monkey samples to monitor BAX upregulation, conformational activation, and mitochondrial accumulation.
