Anti-Bak Antibody

A rabbit polyclonal reagent raised against the pro-apoptotic BCL-2 family member Bak (BCL2 antagonist/killer 1), supplied by Antibodies.com as a 100 µl volume at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol. The unconjugated antibody recognizes Bak and has been validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunocytochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples.

Bak is anchored in the outer mitochondrial membrane, where it oligomerizes in response to cellular stress to permeabilize the membrane and release cytochrome c, committing the cell to the intrinsic apoptosis pathway. Reduced Bak activity has been reported in many tumors and is implicated in resistance to chemotherapy, making Bak a frequent focus of cancer and programmed cell death research. The reagent supports studies of mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP), BCL-2 family protein interactions, and drug-induced cell death.

Storage: aliquot and store at -20°C for long-term use; the 50% glycerol formulation remains liquid at -20°C and avoids repeated freeze-thaw cycles. For short-term working aliquots, keep refrigerated at 4°C and protect from light. Sodium azide at 0.1% acts as a microbial preservative.
