Ataxin-1 (ATXN1) is the protein product of the ATXN1 gene whose CAG trinucleotide expansion is causative of the autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder Spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1). This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes human ATXN1 and is supplied as 100 µl of affinity-purified antiserum for use in western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows. ATXN1 is most highly expressed in cerebellar Purkinje neurons, where it functions in translational regulation and RNA-binding complexes through its AXH domain. Altered ATXN1 levels are widely studied in the context of polyglutamine (polyQ) expansion toxicity, motor neuron decline, and Purkinje cell degeneration. The antibody is reactive with human ATXN1, supporting neurobiology and neurodegeneration research, including studies of expanded CAG repeat pathology, ATXN1 interactome mapping with partners such as capicua (CIC), and characterization of cerebellar tissue in fixed or lysed specimens.
