Raised in rabbit, this polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets the alpha subunit of mitochondrial F1-ATP synthase, the catalytic core of complex V in oxidative phosphorylation. Because ATP5A1 is encoded by nuclear DNA, translated in the cytosol, and imported into the inner mitochondrial membrane, immunolabeling with this antibody serves as a reliable marker for mitochondrial mass and a stable loading control in respiratory-chain studies.

Supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated immunoglobulin at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, the antibody is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows. Reported reactivity spans human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting cross-species comparisons of mitochondrial content in tissue sections, cultured cells, and isolated organelle preparations. The glycerol-containing buffer permits storage at -20 °C with minimal freeze-thaw damage, and the azide preservative is compatible with direct use in immunofluorescence microscopy.

Typical applications include confirming mitochondrial enrichment during subcellular fractionation, benchmarking mitophagy induction, and verifying equal loading of respiratory-chain complexes in blue-native PAGE. In IHC, the reagent produces a granular cytoplasmic signal consistent with mitochondrial distribution in hepatocytes, neurons, and cardiac muscle, while IF co-staining with organelle markers such as Tom20 or COX IV enables colocalization analyses of mitochondrial dynamics under stress, differentiation, or metabolic challenge.
