Encoded by ATP2A1, the SERCA1 calcium pump is a P-type ATPase that sequesters cytosolic Ca2+ into the sarcoplasmic reticulum of fast-twitch (type II) skeletal muscle fibers, and loss-of-function variants in this gene cause Brody disease, an autosomal recessive myopathy characterized by delayed muscle relaxation after exercise. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is supplied as a 100 µl aliquot, reacts with human and mouse samples, and has been validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry, detecting the endogenous ~110 kDa SERCA1 polypeptide in cell lysates and skeletal muscle tissue sections. It supports research into excitation-contraction coupling, the molecular basis of Brody myopathy, and the fiber-type composition of striated muscle in both healthy and disease models, where SERCA1 expression or activity is experimentally perturbed.
