ASS1 (Argininosuccinate Synthase 1) is a cytosolic ATP-dependent enzyme that condenses citrulline and aspartate into argininosuccinate, anchoring the urea cycle in liver hepatocytes and supporting de novo arginine biosynthesis in extrahepatic tissues. Promoter methylation and silencing of the ASS1 gene has been reported in multiple solid tumours, including mesothelioma, hepatocellular carcinoma, prostate cancer, and certain sarcomas, producing an arginine-auxotrophic phenotype that has been exploited in arginine-depletion therapeutic strategies.

This polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised in rabbit and supplied as an unconjugated antiserum in a 100 µl vial, intended for detection of the human ASS1 protein. The antibody has been validated for western blot analysis of cell and tissue lysates, immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections, and immunofluorescence imaging of cultured cells, supporting studies of hepatic urea-cycle enzymology, tumour metabolic reprogramming, and the expression status of ASS1-deficient cancers in patient-derived material.
