Aspartoacylase (ASPA) is a cytoplasmic metalloenzyme expressed primarily in oligodendrocytes, where it hydrolyzes N-acetylaspartate into aspartate and acetate to support myelin lipid synthesis. Loss-of-function mutations in ASPA underlie Canavan disease, a severe autosomal recessive leukodystrophy, which makes this target a focus of neuroscience and lysosomal-storage research. The Antibodies.com polyclonal reagent is raised in rabbit against recombinant human ASPA and supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated stock, suitable for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence on human tissue and cell samples. Best practice is to refrigerate the antibody, protect it from light, and apportion it into single-use aliquots to limit freeze-thaw loss. Researchers use this reagent to localize ASPA in brain sections, confirm expression in oligodendroglial cell models, and screen variants associated with Canavan disease.
