Polyclonal antibodies from Antibodies.com support studies of urea cycle enzymology in human tissue and cell-derived samples. This reagent specifically recognizes Argininosuccinate Lyase (ASL), a cytosolic homotetrameric enzyme that catalyzes the reversible cleavage of argininosuccinate into arginine and fumarate, the final step that converts ammonia to excretable urea.

Mutations in the ASL gene on chromosome 7q11.2 cause argininosuccinic aciduria, an autosomal recessive urea cycle disorder presenting with neonatal hyperammonemia, progressive neurological injury, and characteristic trichorrhexis nodosa. Researchers investigating inherited metabolic disease, hepatocyte biology, and ammonia detoxification pathways use validated detection reagents to map ASL expression in patient biopsies and disease models.

Supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antiserum, this reagent is validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on human specimens. For best results, aliquot the antibody upon arrival and store at -20°C; protect from light and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve binding activity. Use reducing sample buffer for SDS-PAGE separation and standard antigen retrieval on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections.

Because the immunogen was raised against the human ASL sequence, the reagent is validated for human reactivity, while cross-reactivity with rodent orthologs is not formally supported by the available data; laboratories working with mouse or rat samples should run their own controls before drawing conclusions.
