Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is the predominant water channel of the central nervous system and serves as a well-established marker of astrocytic foot processes at the blood-brain barrier. This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets a conserved region of AQP4 and was validated for western blot across human, mouse, and rat samples, producing a characteristic band near 34 kDa in brain and spinal cord lysates.

The antibody is supplied as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) at approximately pH 7.3, with 0.05% sodium azide added as a preservative. It is unconjugated, allowing researchers to pair it with their own secondary detection chemistries for immunoblotting of membrane fractions, astrocyte-enriched cultures, or NMO-relevant tissue preparations.

For short-term use, store at 4°C; for longer retention, aliquot and freeze at -20°C to limit freeze-thaw cycles. The polyclonal nature of the host response yields recognition of multiple epitopes on AQP4, which is helpful when probing denatured targets in reducing SDS-PAGE workflows used in neuroscience and neurology laboratories.
