This rabbit polyclonal IgG reagent from Antibodies.com recognizes the catalytic alpha-1 subunit of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPKα1), the energy-sensing serine/threonine kinase encoded by PRKAA1 that monitors cellular AMP:ATP and ADP:ATP ratios. AMPKα1 is activated by the upstream kinases LKB1 and CaMKKβ via phosphorylation at Thr172 and coordinates glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, autophagy, and mitochondrial biogenesis, making it a widely studied node in metabolism, cancer biology, and cardiovascular research.

Validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows, the unconjugated antibody cross-reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples. The reagent is supplied as 100 µl at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, a buffer combination that supports storage at -20°C with minimal freeze-thaw damage to the glycerol-stabilized preparation. The polyclonal format gives broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives, useful when probing isoforms or post-translational modifications such as phospho-Thr172 in cell culture and tissue-based in vitro studies.
