This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets the catalytic alpha subunits of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPKα1/α2), binding an epitope in the D168 region of the kinase domain. AMPK operates as a heterotrimeric serine/threonine kinase that senses the intracellular AMP:ATP ratio; under energetic stress such as nutrient deprivation or hypoxia, the alpha subunit is phosphorylated at Thr172, switching the complex on so it can phosphorylate substrates governing glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, mitochondrial biogenesis, and autophagy.

Validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows, the antibody detects the alpha subunit in Human, Mouse, and Rat sample backgrounds, making it useful for comparative studies in cell culture lysates and paraffin-embedded tissue sections. The unconjugated format, supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (approximately pH 7.2) with 0.05% sodium azide, gives laboratories flexibility to choose their own secondary reporter or to use it directly in immunolabeling protocols. The 100 µl vial size at this concentration supports exploratory signal-pathway studies as well as larger screening campaigns.

Because AMPK sits at the intersection of metabolic and growth control pathways, the reagent is frequently applied to research on type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular remodeling, and tumor metabolism, where investigators examine phosphorylation status, total subunit expression, and downstream engagement of effectors such as ACC and ULK1.
