AMACR (Alpha-Methylacyl-CoA Racemase) is a peroxisomal and mitochondrial enzyme that participates in the beta-oxidation of branched-chain fatty acids and bile acid intermediates, and it has been extensively characterized in the pathology literature as a diagnostic marker for prostate adenocarcinoma. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com is raised against AMACR and is validated for western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows on human and mouse samples.

The reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, and is packaged in a 100 µl vial. In routine IHC use on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections, the antibody produces cytoplasmic staining of prostatic adenocarcinoma, while benign prostatic glands and high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia show comparatively weaker signal. Researchers commonly pair AMACR immunostaining with basal cell markers such as p63 and high molecular weight cytokeratin to distinguish malignant glands, which lack a basal cell layer, from benign mimics that retain one. The antibody also supports western blot detection of the AMACR protein band in cell and tissue lysates, enabling confirmation of expression changes at the protein level. For long-term integrity, store the vial at -20°C in single-use aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and protect the solution from light when not in use.
